La sportiva katana velcro8/18/2023 ![]() The construction makes it a premium jamming and camming climbing shoe, that excels on most every kind of climbing. Part of that comes down to footwork, but if you buy this shoe, you will be able to resole it and it will retain its structure through that resole. At the same time, if your project requires a friction toe-hook, a shoe with hooking rubber will fair you better.įinally, it is durable and it does not delaminate. While the shoe is stiff, it is also pliant enough to hook. That little knuckle bump at the forefront of the shoe creates space for the foot to hunker behind. With that said, the softer upper allows for a degree of control on arete hooks. Naturally, this is not the best toe-hooking shoe in the world. Only the Theory approaches a similar level of control. It is possibly the best heel in the La Sportiva range. If you need to improve your heel hooking, this shoe offers a great platform to learn, as it does most of the work for you. This shoe not only cams well because of the heel, but it gets behind thin hooks well, and holds them easily. In that vein, the heel cup itself offers a superior hooking solution to boulder problems and sport routes. Over the entire time of testing, there was not a single heel hook that required more tension than the fast-lacing loops. You can also thread your laces through two eyelets at the top of the tongue for greater tension and heel security. This reduces the pressure on the foot as the laces tighten to give a secure fit. These laces rest on a breathable tongue over the forefoot. The Testarossa is a bit of a hassle to get in and out of, but the new Katana Lace goes on and off in a flash. It is worth noting that the break in period will be a little longer than with the older model, so give it a chance to soften on your crystal heavy project.įrom a comfort standpoint, the fast-lacing design of the shoe is difficult to beat. On Squamish slab, the old Katana dominated. The XS-Edge supports the climber through their ascent, allowing for control on small edges and crystals. The Testarossa only out climbs the Katana on very steep sport climbs. The shoe responds consistently to pressure, making even the trickiest foot sequences feel a little less nerve wracking.įor hard sport and trad climbing, the Katana Lace outcompetes the Miura and Testarossa. Its strong bouldering performance places a point at the tip of the shoe that lets the climber trust their movement.

Speediness go karts8/18/2023 ![]() You want to make sure that maintenance on the kart won’t be a living nightmare every time something goes wrong. What To Look For In A Kart Beyond Top Speed Maintenance Requirements ![]() There’s not much better than hitting the limit of how fast your kart can go on a straight stretch of track! However, there’s a lot more to karting than constantly maxing out your speed. Top speeds are all well and good, don’t get me wrong. As such, their engines are limited for early racing series and have these limits removed when they become more experienced. This is because 50cc is a very common kid kart racing series, and you don’t want 5 or 6-year-old kids zipping around a track at 60 mph right off the bat. 50cc Kart SpeedsĪnother interesting thing to look at is the 50cc go-kart, and how different the top speeds are between limited and unlimited settings. Top speeds for 4-strokes are lower by a fair amount, largely because they are less powerful than 2-strokes. This is due to the fact that 200cc karts cannot handle the torque that a 200cc 2-stroke engine puts out (without modifying them), and all racing karts in this displacement have to use 4-stroke engines. Obviously these are just a few handpicked examples, but there is a reason for this difference in top speed. Probably the biggest thing you’ve likely noticed from this list is the fact that the 200cc kart is slower than both the 100cc and the 125cc karts I’ve taken top speeds from. Vector images are used as a "map" by dedicated tools: plotters, machine tools with software control. For example, if a logo image is low quality and pixels are visible when enlarged, it can be converted into a vector object that can be scaled up to the desired size without losing sharpness. Vector graphics are mainly used in visual design. Such an image can be enlarged or reduced without loss of quality. Once you’re happy with the image, click “Trace” on the dialog box and then “Expand” from the top bar.It is a complex computational process that converts a raster image, consisting of pixels, into a vector image consisting of lines, curves, and other geometric shapes. If you want this, Ignore White has to be the last step before you apply the Live Trace settings. When the Strokes checkbox is selected, Live Trace creates stroked, open paths when the original stroke weight is less than or equal to the Max Stroke Weight setting, and so fewer anchor points are left in the final image.Ĭlicking the “Ignore White” checkbox makes it so that any pure-white spaces inside and surrounding the image aren’t identified as additional shapes. A lower Minimum Area or higher Path Fitting will sharpen your lines (though too low a Path Fitting results in jagged lines), and a lower Corner Angle will sharpen your corners.īy clicking the Fills checkbox, Live Trace creates closed, filled vector paths, and the end product more closely resembles the original image. The number of colors can be increased or decreased by adjusting the “Max Colors” setting.īlur is set to 0 pixels by default, and anything higher will add more Gaussian blur. A high threshold setting creates a “heavier” image as more gray pixels are represented as black conversely, a low threshold represents more gray pixels as white and results in a “lighter” image.Īll of the presets can be changed to Color, Grayscale, or Black and White by selecting the appropriate Mode. The Threshold value tells Illustrator where we want to trace our lines and is only available for the black and white mode. ![]() You will rarely, if ever, use the Hand Drawn Sketch, Technical Drawing, Inked Drawing, or Lettering presets, but it’s fun to test them all, especially when you’re first getting familiarized with Live Trace. There are many options available in the Presets for you to play around with. The default setting is black and white, which is great if the final product is, say, a two- or three-color screenprint. Turn on Preview to see the changes being made before any effect is applied, and move the Tracing Options box off of the image. Next we turn to Live Trace to transform the pixels from your original images into lines and shapes.Įither choose Tracing Options from the drop-down menu next to Live Trace at the top of the screen or go to Object → Live Trace → Tracing Options. Click on the image you want to vectorize and the image’s four sides will turn light blue to let you know that it has been selected. Open the file in Illustrator and choose the Selection tool. The first step to convert raster image to vector is to choose an appropriate image. ![]() Functionality is essentially the same for newer versions of Illustrator, but the screens will look a little different. It’s still fresh in memory because I had to learn it the hard way that you do not, and I repeat, do not drop Gigabytes of data into an SQLite database.ĭisclaimer: This article is not arguing that you shouldn’t use SQLite at all. So why shouldn’t you dump a ton of data into a convenient single file on your computer? And why is actually distributing the data across many computers much faster? In this article I attempt to explain the science behind that. On the Slack I was lacking the full explanation due to space because – as everything in life – it’s complicated™. The data will now (probably) be transferred to a sharded MySQL database cluster and that will speed up almost anything by large margins. And to that I immediately had to respond “No!” Almost immediately the idea was brought up to simply drop everything into an SQLite database.
